Their objective:
- Pushing the limits of mechanics
- Reaching 300 km/h in street racing
- Be the best, without ever getting caught
A Strict Code: Honor, Speed and Discipline
Contrary to what one might imagine of a street gang, the members of the Mid Night Club had an extremely strict code of conduct :
- No endangerment of civilians : if an innocent person was threatened, the race stopped immediately.
- Ultra-selective admission : you had to prove your mastery, your performance... and your loyalty.
- Extreme preparation : Cars were carefully modified, often in secret, to exceed 300 km/h.
They weren't drifters, but highway drivers. Pure-blooded "Wangan Racers."
Iconic Cars
The Mid Night Club is also a collection of cars that have become cult in the JDM world :
- Porsche 911 Turbo (Mid Night 930) : capable of reaching 315 km/h
- Nissan Fairlady Z (S30Z) : boosted to the max
- Toyota Supra, Nissan GT-R, RX-7 … all modified to the max, often with outsized turbos
The End of the Myth: 1999
Everything changed in the late 1990s. A clash involving civilian bikers resulted in serious injuries. Although the Mid Night Club wasn't directly responsible, their code of honor was broken .
The result: the club dissolved voluntarily , in total silence. No statement, no confession. Just a disappearance. And a legend intact.
An Eternal Legacy in Auto Culture
Today, the name Mid Night Club is banned from use in Japan, but it lives on:
- In video games (Wangan Midnight, Gran Turismo)
- In manga/anime (Wangan Midnight)
- In auto streetwear , "Mid Night" stickers have become cult
- And in global drift and JDM culture , where it remains an ultimate symbol of performance, passion… and respect
